COVID-19 Cases Growing In Kenora/Thunder Bay

The Northwestern Health Unit is urging the public to keep COVID-19 prevention measures top of mind.

Kenora has been the region’s hotspot of late with ten cases being reporting in the last seventeen days.

The Rainy River district has not reported a case in several weeks although an employee with the Rainy River District School Board was recently diagnosed with the virus in another jurisdiction.

The Kenora region’s positivity rate is now six times higher than what was seen during the summer and is now similar to some areas in southern Ontario.

There are currently six active cases in the Kenora area.

Some of the cases are related to travel outside of the region. Other individuals had not travelled or had contact with known cases.

In the Thunder Bay area, it’s another double-digit day for new cases.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is reporting 11 new cases.

All of them caught the virus from being in close contact with someone with the illness.

They are now self-isolating.

There are currently 58 active cases in that district.
