Operation Christmas Child Returns

Your chance to put a smile this Christmas on a child living in an underdeveloped part of the world.

Operation Christmas Child is back for another year.

The program from Samaritan’s Purse encourages people to fill a shoebox for them with things like school supplies, hygiene items, toys and other items.

The coordinator of the program in the Rainy River district, Carolyn Winik, says those boxes are now out.

“You can go to one of our participating locations, and you pick up a shoebox. With a shoebox, you get a label. The categories are for boy or girl, ages 2-4, 5-9 and 10-14,” says Winik.

The boxes are available at Kreger Sales and Service in Rainy River, Tompkins Hardware, Cloverleaf Grocery and Calvary Baptist Church in Emo, Lowreys and the Bargain Shop! in Fort Frances, and Quetico North Outfitters near Quetico Park.

When you have filled the box, you return it to one of those locations by this Sunday.

Last year, district residents filled just over 500 shoe boxes.

This year’s boxes are bound for several countries in Central America and Africa, including El Salvador, Costa Rica and Sierra Leone.
