Funding And Service Cuts Considered

Some potential service and funding cuts could be looming for the town of Fort Frances.

A draft of this year’s operating budget shows a shortfall of $651-thousand.

Council will consider at their budget meeting today a series of operational and program cuts to help reduce that number.

A list compiled by administration includes reducing hours at the marina, eliminating the town’s contribution to the Meals on Wheels program and Canada Day fireworks display and forgoing a town staff and volunteer appreciation dinner.

Other savings suggested include sending one fewer councillor to this year’s Ontario Municipal conference and spending less on doctor recruitment.
