Northwestern Ontario Senator Lynn Beyak won’t be getting a paycheck for the rest of this parliamentary session.
Her fellow Senators agreed to suspend Beyak for a second time in a voice vote yesterday afternoon.
This a Senate Ethics Committee determined she hadn’t fully complied with sanctions imposed against her last year for posting letters deemed to the be racist to her Senate website.
The Committee also felt she hadn’t adequately completed a mandated anti-racism training.
Beyak did apologize Tuesday but many area Indigenous people saw it as being too little, too late.
With the suspension, Beyak will not receive any remuneration or reimbursement of expenses, including any living allowances.
She will also be denied access to Senate resources including office space.
