New Problem Found With Licence Plates

The saga of Ontario’s new licence plates continues.

NDP critic Lisa Gretzky says she received a letter complaining about another new problem with the plates she brought forward to Ontario’s Government and Consumer Services Minister Lisa Thompson at Queen’s Park.

“The plates can’t be read clearly in broad daylight (as) bright sun makes them over-reflect,” says Gretzky. “If sunshine wasn’t a part of your exhaustive testing then what was? A cell phone flash at your photo ops?”

She went on to say the safety of Ontario residents is being compromised.

“One thing is clear, and it isn’t the plates. We should not be putting more ‘stealth plates’ on to the roads. Why can’t this Minister and Premier see that this is a glaring safety issue?” asks Gretzky.

Thompson says they are doing their due diligence to make sure the new plates work properly.

“We’re working collaboratively with all of our key stakeholders, as well as 3M, to deliver an enhanced product in the coming weeks. We’ve been assured by 3M that they stand by their products, and will deliver our enhanced licence plate to Ontarians as quickly as possible,” says Thompson.

Thompson ads safety is their number one concern.
