The Fort Frances Seniors Centre will not be relocating to the town’s former daycare centre.
Its board of management will instead seek out grants for an expansion of the existing Sister Kennedy Centre.
Councillor Wendy Brunetta, who sits on the board, says both options were weighed based on several factors. She says while continued use of the current location scored low, expanding it scored higher than relocation.
“The major factor that shifted preference to the current location was due to the fact that renovation costs to the daycare were extremely high,” says Brunetta.
The estimated cost to renovate the daycare centre was pegged at $500-$600 thousand dollars.
The expansion of the existing Sister Kennedy Centre was estimated at between $280-$450 thousand.
Brunetta says they will now seek grants to offset any expansion plans.
Town council voted last night to accept the board’s recommendation.
