Local Sports Report For Friday, January 17

The Fort Frances Muskies played host to the Beaver Brae Broncos from Kenora Thursday night in NorWOSSA winter court sport action.

It was a clean sweep for the Muskies, winning 46-38 and 58-40 in junior and senior boys basketball and then in straight sets in junior and senior girls’ volleyball.

 

The International Falls Broncos girls’ basketball teams were dominant against Denfeld as the JV Broncos won 44-16 and the varsity squad came away with a 63-46 victory.

 

There was one game in the SIJHL Thursday as the Red Lake Miners continued to inch closer to the top of the table with a 5-3 win over the Thief River Falls Norskies.

Jordan Baranesky had a hat trick for Miners, while Bryce Krauter had a goal and two helpers and Ryan Howe had three assists.

The Lakers are in action Friday as they welcome the Thunder Bay North Stars to the Ice For Kids Arena.

 

In the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, two Fort Frances products played key roles for the Winkler Flyers in their 5-4 win over the Virden Oil Capitals.

Former Laker Ian Tookenay scored the opening goal for Winkler, while former Muskie Sulivan Shortreed had an assist.
