Local Sports Report For Monday, January 13

Fort Frances Muskies senior boys basketball team taking silver at the Falcon Invitational in Thunder Bay over the weekend, losing to the host St. Ignatius Falcons 70-22 in the final game.

Wyatt Richards and Sean Huziak were named tournament all-stars.

The Atikokan Voyageurs won the consolation side with a 55-47 win over LaVerendrye of Thunder Bay.

On the junior side, the Muskies finished 7th after beating LaVerendrye 70-20.

 

First NorWOSSA Nordic Ski event held at the Rainy Lake Nordic Ski Club Friday with Ray Calder of Fort Frances High finishing 7rd in the senior boys race.

Tori Toriseva was second in the senior girls event. Sister Emma Toriseva was third while Kayli Machura finished fourth.

Angie Redford in 5th and Jaida Norris in 7th were other Muskie skiers entered.

Leland Simard of Atikokan High was seventh in the junior boys race.

Elizabeth Young of Atikokan was third in junior girls.

Jaycelin Bolen, 5th, and Karlyn Rissanen, 6th, also skied for AHS in the race.

In the Elementary boys event, Cooper Rissanen of AHS was 4th with teammates Carter Fisk in 5th, Dontel Turtel in 6th and Seth Danard in 7th.

In the elementary girls event, Leah Pfeifer of AHS finished 4th.

 

International Falls Broncos girls hockey team tied Prairie Center on Saturday 3-3 in overtime.

The Broncos girls basketball team lost to Two Harbors Saturday, 58-45.

 

Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team defeated Selkirk yesterday 4-1 to claim the B-side championship of the Piper Classic in Winnipeg.

Peyton Avis scored a pair of goals in the game.

 

Fort Frances Lakers made a roster move at the trade deadline last Friday.

The team transferred their playing rights to netminder Dylan Kosik over the to Thunder Bay North Stars for a player development fee.

Kosik suited up for 12 games for the Lakers, ending with a 5-4 win-loss record.

 

A sweep for the Rainy River Voyageurs basketball teams on Saturday.

Playing Lake Superior College, the men won 78-75 while the women pulled out a 54-46 victory.
