The Rainy River District School Board is cancelling next week’s EQAO Grade 9 math tests.
It comes in response to job action by high school teachers who are refraining from any involvement in those tests.
Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce also expressed concern students weren’t prepared for those tests and left if up to school boards to decide if they wanted to conduct the tests as scheduled.
Students’ performance in those tests does play a part in their final marks for the year.
The local board says it’s now awaiting further direction from the Ministry of Education on how students will be able to write the test at a later date.
Lecce indicated students might be able to write it in June.
Several other schools in northwestern Ontario have also cancelled the tests for next week
