Students return to class next week with their teachers still looking for new contracts with the provincial government.
All three main teachers’ unions are in a legal strike position.
High school teachers were involved in a series of one-day strikes before the Christmas break while public elementary teachers have withdrawn from performing certain duties.
Teachers’ unions have not yet indicated what job action they plan to do when school resumes.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford says the government’s goal remains the same.
“Teachers are the heart and soul of our community,” says Rickford, “and we are encouraging talks to restart and hopefully our kids will stay in school in the new year.”
The teachers have been without a contract since the start of this school year.
