SIU Laying No Charges Following Kenora Incident

The Special Investigations Unit is laying no charges against an OPP officer after a teen girl was hurt falling out of a moving police cruiser.

Police were taking the 17-year-old to the detachment in Kenora last June to sober up when she reached through the bars of an open window and opened the back door to leave.

Upon hearing the door open, the officer driving applied the brakes, leading to the girl to fall to the ground, suffering a broken ankle.

The SIU says while there appears to be some responsibility on the officer for the injury, there were no reasonable grounds for charges.
