Arbitration Meetings Halted Until New Year

There will be no new deal for Canada Post workers in 2019.

The contract talks have been in arbitration since last November.

Last week, the federal government granted the arbitrator’s request to extend the process until the end of June.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers says Canada Post is not planning to finish presenting its case until at least the end of February.

It also blames Canada Post for slowing the process down, nothing it halted the hearings last Thursday by deciding not to call any further witnesses until the new year.

So far there have been 38 separate meetings where both sides have been presenting evidence for the Arbitrator to consider.

The discussions will resume in the middle of January.
