Local Sports For Monday, December 23

Jordan Chandler’s Thunder Bay rink and Geraldton’s Dylan Johnston earned berths to the Northern Ontario Curling Association men’s curling championship after finishing one-two at a qualifier this weekend at the Fort Frances Curling Club.

Chandler’s rink includes Stratton’s Trevor Bonot.

Mike Badiuk of Devlin is curling with the Johnston rink.

The provincials will be held in New Liskeard at the end of January.

 

International Falls Broncos boys hockey team edged the Fort Frances Muskies Friday in the Falls 3-2.

Brady Wicklund, with his second of the game, scored the game-winner.

Jordan Smith had the other Bronco goal.

Mikel Ward had both of the Muskies’ markers.

 

International Falls Broncos girls hockey team was blanked 6-0 by Crookston on Saturday.

 

Fort Frances Lakers ended 2019 with a win, beating Thief River Falls 6-3 on Friday.

Kyle Uzelman and Flynn Perry both had a pair of goals in the game.

The Lakers don’t play again until January 2.

 

A sweep on the court for the Rainy River Voyageurs.

The men’s basketball team beat Hibbing on Friday 93-55 then downed Vermilion 98-90 on Saturday.

The women were 81-75 winners in overtime over Hibbing before defeating Vermilion 93-51.
