Area women killed by violence will be among those remembered this evening in Fort Frances.
A vigil for the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women will take place at Knox United Church.
Organizer Peggy Loyie says it’s now their twentieth observation.
“It’s surprising and heartbreaking that this continues. In our district in the last couple of years, we have had three losses due to violence so we have to continue this,” says Loyie.
“People think that we’re tucked away in this little piece of the world but we’re not immune to it. Especially in the work that we see with victim services, we are all well aware of the level of violence and the type of violence (taking place.)”
Also tonight, Jessica Wilson from Tribal Health will be talking to those in attendance about her work regarding this issue of human trafficking and violence against women.
The event is open to everyone.
It begins at 6 p.m.
