Home buyers in Ontario will soon have another option to choose from when searching the market.
The provincial government is releasing a guide called Buy or Build a Tiny Home Guide, to advise on how to buy or build what are known as tiny homes.
Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Steve Clark says tiny homes are cheaper to build and maintain and more affordable than traditional homes.
However, the government adds municipal zoning by-laws can affect whether a tiny home can be built on a property.
Tiny homes cannot be smaller than 17.5 square metres, as set out in Ontario’s Building Code.
The Minister’s Parliamentary Assistant adds consultations with builders, designers and regulators contributed to the guide.
