Online Reporting Encouraged

The Ontario Provincial Police are encouraging the public to consider reporting certain petty crimes online.

The OPP have a form you can fill out on their website.

Staff Sergeant Carolle Dionne says it’s something they’ve had for a while but some people may not have been aware it was available.

“It’s about being efficient in the services that we provide. It’s about being able to maximize where we’re directing our services,” says Dionne.

Incidents that can be reported online include minor thefts, acts of mischief under $5-thousand, stolen license plates or driving complaints other than things like impaired driving.

Dionne says it doesn’t mean you won’t get to chance to speak to an officer.

“If there’s more information that’s required or maybe an officer from reading the report, we figure an officer should be following up on this one, it will be assigned to that detachment, an officer will be assigned and then respond.”

Dionne still encourages the public to call police directly or 911 if the incident is more serious.
