An Atikokan catholic elementary school wants to reach the top of the tower.
It’s a fundraiser for the Grade 7 and 8 class at St. Patrick’s School. They’re planning to visit the CN tower when they tour Toronto next June.
Principal Jessica Veenbaas says the idea is to sell a piece of the tower.
“Our local paper, they actually create posters that we hang in our foyer at school. It can have the business’s name. Sometimes people want to say for my child, and then it’s like a piece of the puzzle and then we try and build the CN tower out of it,” says Veenbaas.
Veenbaas says it was the co-owner of the local paper who came up with the idea a few years ago.
“She was brainstorming, trying to figure out ways to fundraise for her nephew and this sort of came to be.”
That first year, the campaign raised over $20-thousand. This year’s goal is $5-thousand. The school has already collected one-thousand dollars.
The fundraiser will continue right up until the students leave for Toronto.
