Expanding FireSmart Program To More Fire Nations

Some new money to help First Nations communities protect themselves from wildfires.

Almost $48-million over 5-years is being doled out to expand on-reserve FireSmart programs to more communities.

It will include training First Nations teams in wildfire suppression and ways to minimize the threat of wildfires before they start.

The money is in addition to the $259 million included in this year’s federal budget to strengthen First Nations ability to respond to emergencies such as fort fires.
