Tornado Likely Hit Near Quetico

Environment Canada is now confirming a storm near Atikokan at the end of July likely triggered a tornado.

Meteorologist Peter Kimbell says there storm damage at the time around Quetico College School, formerly Quetico Centre.

They got some wind damage, we think was probably downburst related. But just a bit further south and southwest it seems to have been a track (of damage) so we suspect that there was a tornado there.

Kimbell says satellite imagery shows what appears to be a long narrow track of storm damage to indicate it was caused by a tornado.

No one was hurt by storm but several hundred trees in the area were knocked down by strong winds.

Tornado warnings had been issued for the area at the time.
