June 15th was another eventful day here in The Borderland…
The Fun in the Sun Committee and The Fort Frances Lions Club hosted a Rubber Duck Race fundraiser along Rainy River for Lion’s Club Park and children’s activities on Canada Day
Roughly 800 ducks floated along the waterfront as organizers guided them toward the chute.
The first duck through won top prize of a $1,000 for the lucky person who happen to have bought a ticket with the corresponding number written on the duck. 16 winners were name in all. The last duck through even won someone $25.
I bought I ticket…and won NOTHING…typical.
However, they did ask me to emcee. I even got to use a megaphone! I know some of our listeners are probably thinking…”Great, just what that guy needs”.

While I was down by The Sporting Gap I also saw a great turn out for The Annual Walk For Alzheimer’s. The walk had wrapped up by the point, but everyone was rocking blue t shirts and enjoying a BBQ lunch afterwards.
I had a quick chat with the organizers and they say it was a wonderful day of raising awareness and funds for the important work that this awesome organization does for dementia patients all across our region.

The Voyageur Lions Club also dedicated a pop can recycling bin in honour and memory of the late Arlan Scott.
I never knew Arlan, but I’m told that he was famous for collecting cans from all over Fort Frances.
As a member of The Lions, who also helps to empty the bins that are placed at various places around town, this feels like a fitting tribute. I’m glad Arlan’s family and friends showed up for the ceremony.
