5G Planned By Tbaytel

There is a celebration at Tbaytel with the news it has won more space for its wireless services.

Spokesperson Simone Laatu tells us eventually the city-owned utility will be able to deliver high-speed Internet on the 5G network.

“So this is an investment that we’re making in the spectrum. 5G is just evolving. Some of the large carriers are currently doing trials. In our TBaytel network, we envision this around 2022,” says Laatu.

Tbaytel paid $2.8 million for the northern Ontario spectrum released in a government auction.

Laatu calls that “a great buy” since the spectrum market is “very competitive” with other carriers looking acquire space on the spectrum.
