56 inch sturgeon longest at Birchdale tournament

A 56-inch lunker was the big fish at the North American Sturgeon Championship held in Birchdale.

It was caught by Michael Thompson of Coon Rapids, Minnesota.

He won almost two thousand dollars for his efforts.

Twenty-three anglers measured fish in the catch and release fishing tournament.

Gunnar Hackenmueller was the winner of the youth tournament with a sturgeon measuring in at 49 5/8 inches.

The event also raised money for the Birchdale Community Center.
