Illegal Smokes Seized Near Thunder Bay

The OPP have seized almost $900,000 worth of illegal cigarettes just west of Thunder Bay.

Police say they stopped a vehicle earlier in the week on Highway 17 in Goldie Township.

A commercial motor vehicle inspection was carried out on U-Haul van, which had over 2 million cigarettes inside.

A 24 year old Scarborough man has been charged under the Tobacco Tax Act with:

-Possession of unmarked cigarettes for sale

-Possession of unmarked cigarettes

And under the Criminal Code for:

-Trafficking in Contraband Tobacco

-Obstruct Police Officer.

He also faces a number of Highway Traffic Act offenses.
