24 Victims In FL Condo Collapse

The death toll in the collapse of a Florida condo is up to 24 as crews found more bodies.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said while there are still 121 people still unaccounted for, they’re preparing to demolish what’s left of the tower in Surfside, South Florida.

He pointed out the area is bracing for Tropical Storm Elsa, which could bring the rest of the building down on its own.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said at a news conference Saturday night they will pause the search for more victims while crews prepare the site for demolition.

She pointed out it’s not safe for first responders to be inside once demolition crews drill holes in the structure.

“We are continuing to receive updates about the standing structure, and we will begin the search and rescue once again on any sections of the pile that are safe to access as soon as we are cleared,” she added.

The building collapsed on June 24th.
