A former trustee with the Rainy River District School Board has been honoured by the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association.
Raymond Roy is a co-winner of OPSBA’s Bernardine Yackman Memorial Award. It recognized dedication, commitment and contributions to education in northern Ontario.
Roy served as trustee for Fort Frances for the last eight years, the final four as chair.
During that period, he advocated for funding for a K-12 school in Atikokan and an Objibwe Language Strategy.
As chair, he was also instrumental in advocating for funding for a new K-12 school in Rainy River, and over the past two years, helped to lead the board through the challenges of the pandemic.
