Rainy River Park Areas Getting Upgrades

The town of Rainy River has a couple of projects to use a grant from FedNor on.

It’s received almost $385 thousand.

Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP Marcus Powlowski made the announcement during a visit to the community earlier this week.

Mayor Deb Ewald says some of the money will be spent at Hannam Park.

“We’re looking at installing a permanent stage because we always have the walleye tournament, the pumpkin festival and railroad days and stuff down there. So that’s one of the projects we’re looking at with the money,” says Ewald.

The rest will be used to fix up its railway train park.

“The engine that we have needs some work done to stabilize it a bit more because it’s over the years it’s settled and not quite the way it should have. (We will) also finish putting a canopy over the whole train so that it’s protected more from the elements.”

The town is still in the planning stages and tendering of both projects.
