Canadian military captain dies while deployed in Middle East

A member of the Canadian Armed Forces has died in Iraq.

Captain Eric Cheung (CHUNG) died on Saturday in Baghdad. In a release, the Department of National Defence describes his death as “non-operational related circumstances” but they did not go into further details.

“Our thoughts are with Captain Cheung’s family and friends. The Canadian Armed Forces are supporting Captain Cheung’s loved ones with assistance during these challenging times. The family has requested that their privacy be respected.” Department of National Defence

Captain Cheung was an operations officer with 38 Canadian Brigade Group Headquarters, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
