Councillor To Bring Forward Proposals

A Fort Frances councillor wants to see more diverse faces around the council table.

Doug Judson says many segments of the population, such as women, families and Indigenous people, are either under-represented or not at all.

He says council has the ability to change that.

“I think we need to address these issues in order to send a clear message that we want the full diversity of our community to have opportunities to be part of council and civic debate in the community,” says Judson.

Judson says he plans to bring forward proposals for discussion in the near future.

“I hope to bring forward some straightforward proposals to council through administration and finance to address some of these challenges.

If council is serious about renewal about doing more to foster diversity and to have a representative Council that I’m hoping that these will provide support.”

He’s also reaching out to others for ideas.

“I encourage members of Council or members of the public that have specific ideas or suggestions that could support younger people or people from equity-seeking groups or other underrepresented cohorts to participate in the work of council to reach out, to share their thoughts with me.”
