Assurances from Premier Doug Ford that Ontario will get through the pandemic.
In a taped speech to the Rural Ontario Municipal Association, Ford acknowledged that the small municipalities have not been spared from its effects.
“We’ve counted on you to do a lot of heavy lifting for the good of your neighbours, your communities, and all of Ontario. You’ve never let us down, and I can’t thank you enough,” said Ford.
Ford says while there will be further challenges ahead, he’s confident they can handle what’s to come.
Ford also spoke about the importance of small and rural communities playing a part in Ontario’s economic recovery.
He outlined recent programs announced as support.
Expanding broadband services is atop that agenda.
“The infrastructure is critical with bridges and roads, but nothing right now is more important is connecting the rural communities with the rest of the world.”
Ford says they are also committed to dealing with the demand for housing.
He held two summits over the past week with municipal leaders.
He says housing is one of the most pressing issues for the province.
“We can’t and won’t wait any longer to address this crisis, and we will deliver the housing options that all Ontarians need.”
