Fort Frances and International Falls sign Friendship Proclamation

The Towns of Fort Frances and International Falls have signed a friendship proclamation.

It reaffirms their commitment as sister communities.

Fort Frances Mayor Andrew Hallikas says it’s important to recognize the ties they have.

“What can we do to bring people together?” Hallikas said after the proclamation ceremony in Fort Frances.

“I thought, well yeah, sure, we’ve been sister cities, but let’s reaffirm that relationship. Let’s write a proclamation of friendship, sign that publicly and then let’s invite everyone for a cookout.”

International Falls mayor Drake Dill says it’s important to support each other during these tense times.

“When people ask, is there something up or is there animosity? We can reflect on that. No, our bond remains the same.”

The flag of Minnesota, along with the flag of International Falls, has been added to the flags that are flown in Fort Frances.

The proclamation states that even though the federal governments in Canada and the United States are involved in a trade war, it doesn’t negate the friendship of the two communities.
