Rain, high humidity and cooler temperatures over the last couple of days have calmed the region’s forest fire situation temporarily.
Kenora Fire #51 is still threatening Wabaseemoong Independent Nation, and is considered not under control at a size of 197,918 hectares.
Kenora Fire #51 hasn’t increased too much in the past couple of days but remains around 20 kilometres north of Wabaseemoong.
Meanwhile, Red Lake Fire #51 is burning 52,106 hectares around 24 kilometres west of Deer Lake First Nation.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says crews are focusing on protecting Deer Lake First Nation.
There was only one new fire yesterday, bringing the number of active fires to 121.
15 of those fires are not under control.
