Backpack Giveaway Next Thursday

The Salvation Army in Fort Frances is getting ready to help a few area children prepare for another school year.

It will hold what’s becoming an annual backpack giveaway next Thursday.

Auxiliary-Captain Arthur Heathcote says they have 75 to giveaway.

“We’ve got lots of school supplies. All of the essentials are packed into the bags. As well, the Northwestern Health Unit provided the snacks to go into the bags.,” says Heathcote.

Last year, the Salvation Army gave away 50 backpacks within 45 minutes.

We’re looking at trying to help out parents with the smaller kids just to try to defray the cost able to make sure that their little ones have the essentials to get back to school.”

The giveaway is aimed at students in grades 1 to 6 though open to any student.

It will happen in front of the Thrift Store on Scott Street beginning at 11:30 a.m.
