Bicycling To Fight Kids’ Cancer

A Fort Frances teen is preparing for an extensive bicycle ride next month.

Thirteen-year-old Cadance Sinclair hopes to complete 300 kilometres in August.

She’s taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids’ cancer.

“I’m doing this in honour of my Auntie Tara, my mom’s sister, who sadly passed away from childhood cancer. It affects the whole family, and I like to help in any way I can,” says Cadance.

Young Tara-Lynn was diagnosed with Wilms’ tumour at nine months. She passed away at the age of 3 1/2. The majority of her young life was spent at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto.

“I’m very proud of Cadance for taking on this challenge, and I’m definitely very thankful for everybody and the support they are giving her,” says mom Jolene Richert.

Cadance intends to complete her goal with short rides each day.

“I’m setting a goal to bike 10 km a day and sometimes more or less if I need to,” says Cadance.

She’s also hoping to raise $2,500 which will go to the Sick Kids Foundation of Canada.

The public can help by going directly to the Cadance’s page on the Great Cycle Challenge website.

“There’s other options,” says Richert. “I know some people don’t like to donate online or give their credit card or whatever. So donations can also be made to me by transferring me at Jolene-Elizabeth@live.com, and then just maybe put something in the comments section so I know, or you can contact me at 276-8473. We can arrange pick-up or drop-off of donations and I can enter it for you.”
