Fire In Rainy River District Being Held

A forest fire burning north of Rainy River is now listed as being held.

The blaze in the Berglund area was reported by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry early Tuesday evening, scorching about 12 hectares.

There are 22 other fires active elsewhere in northwestern Ontario.

Thirteen are listed as not under control.

Two of the major blazes are near Willard Lake, west of Vermilion Bay.

One is 2,000 hectares in size. The other is listed at about 1,300 hectares.

It’s prompted the MNRF to impose Implementation Orders to restrict public access in the areas near the fires.

Another large blaze near Umfreville Lake, about 50 kilometres north of Kenora, is at 4,300 hectares.

An implementation order is also in place for that area.
