Regional District Proposal For Unincorporated Areas

The Northern Policy Institute has an idea for organizing the unincorporated regions of the province.

Charles Cirtwell is president of the Think Tank and says they don’t have to re-invent the wheel because British Columbia has already done it.

“The province of British Columbia essentially told everybody in northern B.C. that they would have to be in a regional district,” explains Cirtwell.

“But the local communities would decide which regional district they would be part of, how the regional district would be governed and what kind of services they would deliver.”

Cirtwell adds that people living within the unincorporated areas would get a chance to vote for representatives to the Regional Districts. Local municipalities and First Nations would also have representatives.
