Input Wanted On Community Safety and Well Being Plan

Public Input is being sought on a new Community Safety and Well Being Plan.

The Rainy River District Social Services Administration Board is spearheading the effort with eighteen regional services for the entire district.

Housing Manager, and one of the plan’s coordinators, Sandra Weir, says it’s mandated under the Police Services Act.

“The goal is to create a sustainable community where everyone is safe, has a sense of belonging, and has access to services,” says Weir.

Weir says they are now in the process of gathering public comment.

With the pandemic hindering efforts to hold in-person sessions, a survey has been developed instead.

The plan’s co-coordinator Jamie Petrin says it’s available on the DSSAB’s website, with paper copies available for drop-off and pickup at municipal offices across the district.

It’s also being distributed to target areas such as seniors manors and service providers to distribute it to their clients.

“What we’re looking for is to identify patterns in terms of people’s perceptions of safety in their community. So it does extend beyond just looking at crime and crime prevention, which is why it’s a community safety and well-being plan,” says Petrin.

As an incentive to complete the survey, three $100 grocery vouchers are up for grabs.

The survey will be on the DSSAB’s website through to March 16.

You can connect to it here.

A final plan is to be complete by this summer.
