Ojibwe Artist From Red Lake Featured In Blackhawks’ Land Acknowledgement Ceremonies

Anyone who knows me knows that the Chicago Blackhawks are my favourite NHL hockey team.
Duncan Keith was my favourite player before I even moved to Fort Frances.
One of the highlights of working here at 93.1 The Border was being able to travel around town with him while covering all of the events surrounding his visit with The Stanley Cup 5 years ago.

However, in learning more about our First Nations People, I have struggled a little bit with sports teams using names and imagery that are or might be seen as culturally insensitive.

A few franchises have even gone as far as changing their names all together.
