Cost Of New Ladder Truck To Be Explored

Fort Frances council will investigate the cost of a new ladder truck for the fire department.

A Request for Proposal will help identify the exact cost.

Estimated costs are pegged at $1.3 million.

Fire Chief Tyler Moffitt notes they have the oldest truck of its kind in Canada.

“The time is coming. It’s started age out, and these ladder trucks, every year, they get more and more expensive,” notes Moffitt.

Moffitt says there is a need for the truck.

“The big thing we have to look at is we’re a high-risk Community in Canada. Not only do we have the oldest ladder truck in Canada, but we also have the busiest train traffic in North America. Our downtown core is a 1920 era, 1930 era, with no sprinklers. (There are) Lots of apartments throughout the town, no sprinklers. The new one being proposed on Scott Street, going three stories, is not mandatory for sprinklers. So, there is still a need there.

If the town goes ahead with the purchase, delivery and payment wouldn’t happen for at least a year or more.
