Province Sets Schedule For Rest Stop Improvements

The Ontario government confirms it will be moving ahead with upgrades to several rest area stops in northern Ontario this year.

The Highway 17 Ontario/Manitoba rest area is getting a facelift.

Work includes enhanced lighting, renovating interior and exterior washrooms, improved heating and insulation, WiFi service and new information kiosks.

The province is also improving the entrance to the Highway 72 Umfreville rest area near Sioux Lookout.

If you are heading east, a rest stop on Highway 17 near Rossport will see improvements to the entrance.

No start dates are announced.

There are also plans for a new rest stop on Highway 622 near Turtle Lake, north of Atikokan.

Work there will start in 2023.
