Large Spike In COVID-19 Cases

A huge increase in the number of COVID-19 cases for the Northwestern Health Unit.

It’s confirming 14 new cases, all but one are in the Kenora area.

The other is in the Rainy River district.

The Health Unit does not disclose exact locations, citing privacy concerns.

That makes it the most number of cases in one day.

Rat Portage First Nation is confirming two of the cases are in its community.

The Health Unit now says there are 31 active cases in their catchment area. Twelve are within the Rainy River district.

To the east, there has been another death at a long-term care home in Thunder Bay due to COVID-19.

It’s the 20th such death at Southbridge Roseview.

The company reports on its website there are now seven active resident cases and six staff infected.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is reporting six new cases for its catchment area today.

Provincially, Ontario has passed the 200,000 mark overall with 32 hundred new cases today.
