Public School Board Revised Budget

A revised budget for the Rainy River District School Board.

It’s because of new funding from the province.

Superintendent of Business Laura Mills says it includes $2.6 million extra in what’s known as Priorities and Partnerships Funding. Some of the funding is for COVID-19 safety measures in the schools.

The board also received $508,773 in stability funding, resulting from a projected decrease in enrolment, the equivalent of 39.5 full-time students.

There’s also additional cash for mental health and special education.

The extra cash has allowed the board to increase staff by the equivalent of 21.56 positions. This includes the hiring of 13.18 FTE teachers and 4.74 FTE education assistants.

Some of the new staff have been working with students doing their studies online since September through the Board’s Remote Learning School.

The new budget also reflects a decline in enrolment of almost 40 students.

The decline offset by an increase of 29 other students who attend classes under an Education Services Agreement.
