Consider not inviting family and guests from outside the area home for Christmas.
That suggestion from Fort Frances Mayor June Caul, who notes cases of COVID-19 are on the rise in neighbouring jurisdictions like Thunder Bay and Manitoba.
Caul says maybe our university students and other family members should not return home for the holidays this season.
“I really want us to be vigilant and realize how important it is to continue doing all the things we need to do to prevent that illness from coming here,” says Caul.
There have only been 14 cases in the Rainy River district. A recent case in Fort Frances area was the first in the community in several months.
Caul says she understands the hardship of not getting together.
“If we end up having one person who is infected here and has contact with others here, it’s a potential they could affect many others. If those people don’t know before they get tested, they could infect more and more, and it could just snowball.”
Caul says even small things like not wearing a mask can be a huge problem.
Caul would also like residents to refrain from travelling this Christmas as well.
