Alzheimer’s Awareness Month Kicked Off

This is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.

In Fort Frances, it was kicked off with a flag-raising ceremony at the Civic Centre.

Client Services Coordinator with the Alzheimer’s Society for Kenora-Rainy River Mary O’Connor says they will be doing a lot of education programs during the month.

“We’re really promoting what the Alzheimer’s Society has to offer in our area. We’re talking to various health professionals, various response teams, everybody in the district.”

O’Connor notes they have a wide variety of programs available to patients and their families at no cost.

“We do learning series which are in-depth, two-hour, power-point presentations, workbooks, everything, and we have it for the early stages, the middle stages and the late stages of dementia.”

Annual fundraising dinners will take place next month in Fort Frances and Rainy River.

Money raised goes toward offsetting the costs of the Society’s services.
