Festive spirits may be shared amongst family and friends during the holiday season but don’t forget to ensure you are able to get home safely.
Diane Mullins with Mothers Against Drunk Driving says to consider a designated driver if you are going to indulge with a few drinks or cannabis.
“You don’t want to leave an empty space in your loved one’s heart. You don’t want to be an empty chair at a table. Think of them as well,” says Mullins.
She says if you are driving impaired it’s not just you that is at risk.
“You are putting the lives of others in danger as well. Innocent bystanders are in danger as well – the innocent person in the other car or the one walking down the road. You’re ruining their lives and the lives of their loved ones because of your decision,” Mullins says.
She suggests making sure you have your plan before heading out.
“I recommend that you have the plan before you even start to celebrate. That way you’re of a clear mind and you can make sure you have someone willing to drive you home and you have money for a cab or you have arrangements to stay over. Just have a plan, ahead of time,” Mullins says.
