Interest In the Mill Property

It’s appearing unlikely the former Resolute Forest Products mill will restart.

The numbered company now owning the property had given the town of Fort Frances until the end of the year to find a potential operator as part of an agreement reached in October.

Mayor June Caul says while a full restart probably is not going to happen, there is interest.

“We know that there have been other companies that have come forward to the numbered company who now owns it with suggestions as to what they would like to buy and what they would like to produce on the properties,” says Caul.

Caul says one of the entities is someone looking at some type of wood production.

She says details can’t be revealed right now but she has met with them.

“And if this new company is going to start a business here, the numbered company will extend the whole process.”

“Even though it’s not opening as a paper mill, and I’m disappointed because I wanted so many people to have jobs and to come back home to live and work, at least it’s not sitting in limbo anymore there is something going on there.”
