Ontario’s Education Minister and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation continue to be at an impasse.
High teachers across the Rainy River district are among those slated to hold another one-day strike tomorrow over their contract dispute.
OSSTF says it will call off the walk-out if the government reverts class sizes back to 22 students, eliminate mandatory e-learning and removes the cap on public sector salaries.
Education minister Stephen Lecce wants the union to accept mediation without any pre-conditions.
“The union leaders should agree to private mediation. They should stay at the table. Most importantly, Speaker, they should work with us in good faith to get a deal that keeps our kids in class'” said Lecce in Queen’s Park yesterday. “Our focus is on fighting for new investments in our children, not for compensation.”
Teachers with nine school boards are poised for tomorrow’s job action.
It follows a province-wide one-day strike held last week.
